Nah, the prices will become normal within a few months of its release.
I am not sure, but I think some Universities already have this ability.

ok, let's not turn this into a speed test thread.
I had already heard more of less of this a few years ago. What I heard was all homes will in the future be equipped with at least a broadband connection...of course this would mean equipping every area with cable or DSL capability. I agree that 56k is far too slow, although 56k IS better for downloading text rather than images, but not by a big difference. I am of the opinion 128k should be the minimum by today's standards -- I could gain a 30ms ping in UK servers in most games...call of duty for one....it really is fast enough.
It really depends on how often you use your computer: 56k is "for" people who don't use it that much. Frequent internet users shouldn't be cursed with 56k if they can help it.
Though don't forget it wasn't that long ago that a 28.8k modem was quick enough for games like warcraft. http://artho.com/warcraft/lag.html don't forget also that 56k is still a really cheap option for having internet capability...I think the prices now are from 6 pounds per month, and anyone can use 56k.

Will this 1600% apply to DSL or just cable?

Well... I think a lot of companies are on their way to phasing out 56K. In my town, is almost impossible not to get low cable speeds - it's actually easier to get cable than it is to look for 56K. And even my family farm has some sort of weird connection where they have a DSL tower and it shares a link with like 6 different farms.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into Orca engines...

You guys are complaining about your upload when mine is 384k? Be happy with what you have, Comcast sucks for upload because they're retarded.
Anyways, as said a while ago:
Back on topic.

Creed3020 | Sympatico where I live (HSE), is 2.5 Mb/s and 700 Kb/s, The ultra package gets you another 1.5 Mb/s more, though Rogers Extreme is the fastest available around here at 5 Mb/s.
|
Not too bad, but it should be going around 3.0Mbits, I know my friends that have Sympatico get around 2900, and thats not ultra.
