I have had this program called renmod that scans your data folder for any files that are not the originals. It did not however find all the files that do not belong in that folder. It only detects files associated with the game. So I am modding this program so it will find all or most of the files in it. What do you think? It's just an idea right now, but I have everything to do it.

It will detect any files that did not come with the ORIGINAL renegade disk.

Ah I c..

well it sounds good for cleaning a directory out, in a safe measure, but not much else.

if doing it will improve your coding skills, I say go for it.

There's already a program that scans your data folder for files that are not from the original Renegade disk!

It's called RENGUARD Razz

But renguard does not seperate them in to catagories and then give you the option to delete each of the files.

I'm probably missing what you're trying to do (not uncommon) Razz

But Renguard does seperate the categories - .dds files, .W3D files, Object.dbs files and probably more. When you start Renguard these files are identified and you have the choice to delete them prior to a full Renguard startup so they're not identified. Thus ... allowing you to either join a pure or unpure server Smile

What would be the purpose of your data folder identifier if not to do the same thing?

as far as i know renguard does not delete these files for you unless this was updated :/

this program will select the files and remove them for you saving you the trouble of going through the data folder yourself and finiding every file that was not an original and saves you from deleting a file by mistake

Yes I was saying deleting manually before a full Renguard startup. Hey ... but that's cool if you want another program running ... can't see why though. Doesn't take a second to remove files from data folder manually and place in another folder until you want to restore them...

Each to their own I guess Smile

Its not a program that will "run" while you are playing, if that is what you are saying. But it is just a program that you will use when you feel your folder is cluttered with junk. I might have "missed" what you said, but thats what it does.

It's kind of dumb to post a topic saying "hey look I'm going to do this and possibly not even know what I'm doing." You're supposed to make this topic once you actually make this "program".

$100 says he has no idea what he's doing.

Nobody will take that bet because you will win for sure.
