It looks like the Pope isn't doing very well lately... Terry Schiavo is still all over the news but they read the Pope last rights as a kind of safety feature. That shows that he's in a pretty sorry state. It's sad he's been pope for many more years then I've been alive and is the only pope many people have known in their lives.

The 84-year-old pope suffers from a number of chronic illnesses, including crippling hip and knee ailments, and Parkinson's disease, a progressive neurological disorder that can make breathing difficult.

I don't think "heavy burden" would do that justice...

They say he's probably going to go tonight.

I don't see this as a bad thing, not do I think anyone else should. The Pope thinks he's about to meet the person who he has dedicated his entire life to. If anything, people should be happy for him.

..Just don't take that the wrong way..

I agree. I don't think even he could anticipate the true glory that is heaven.

And yet, no one seems ot care about the poor pope because everyone else is still busy babbling about Terri Shiavo. Figures...

The Pope was (and will be) nothing but a normal man in an extremely fortunate position. The man lived a good life and died a natural death in the company of his closest clerics.

Terri Schiavo was a normal woman placed in an extremely abnormal situation. Because of it, she was wrongfully (morally) condemned to death by starvation in the pretext of a completely legitimate legal authority. There was an injustice with Terri Schiavo, only not of the legal system. And that is why people are so extremely vocal regarding her death.
