I was just on MSN and suddenly my sound stops working and so does the person I was talking to. Nothing was downloaded without my say so that I was aware of. :s

Which was kinda strange...

I have rebooted twice and scanned my comp with mcaffe (found no viri). I have reinstalled the sound card drivers and pushed all the pins into the sockets. it's turned on to the correct input. Sound levels are turned up.

The speakers can't have blown because they weren't on very loud and I didn't hear anything bang. Plus also their sound isn't working.

This is really strange and I can't figure out what's gone wrong.

All help appreciated.

-Dave

did you check the wires and connection? Could be an internal problem if they've ever been dropped without you knowing. How old are they also?

You weren't using an audio commication with eachother? Strange anyways. Were you using MSN7 beta or normal.

Check if nothing is on Mute.
Check if your sound card came with it's own mixer program, and that program is loaded, next to the default one.
Check if DirectX (DirectSound) is working correctly.

Size doesn't matter.

sound card + 5.1 surround sound system is about 1 1/2 - 2 years old.

I havn't dropped my computer at all.

This is just strange because my friend on MSN had the same prob at the same time.

Never mind, I used system restore, seems to have worked.

Would still be nice to know what could have/did caused this however...
