Probably... though the integrated graphics card could probably jepordize that.
No. Seriously. No.

Lol, are you kidding? Of course you can. My computer is about 4-5x slower/weaker (except for RAM) then yours and I can run it at full detail at 20-25 FPS.

To be true, that computer sucks ass. You can play Quake3 with that rig and get half ass performance, but IMO I think that renegades inferior code will make Renegade play worse than Quake3 on your computer.
BTW that is funny "98MB Graphics card" LOFL. Your integrated graphics card is stealing your system memory. So when renegades used 98MB of your system ram, that leaves you with 158MB to run windows, renegades and everything else. Which isn't anything close to what you should have. In other words, the Dimension 3000 is NOT a gaming machine. Its a machine for low level computer users to use for MS Word and Excel.
My suggestion... First get a dedicated PCI graphics card since your computer lacks a AGP card. Something like a Geforce MX OR ATI 9200 would be your best bet. There are not that many cards at all that are PCI, and those that are kind of blow or are really over priced. But a dedicated graphics card would help out a lot and free up some of your system ram.
Next get another stick of 256MB DDR or if you can afford it a stick of 512MB DDR. Paired up with your stick of 256MB DDR, that would equal 768MB of RAM.
Total... you shouldn't be looking at any more than $35 256MB DDR 3200, $60 for 512MB DDR 3200, $50 Geforce MX and $100 ATI 9200.
So at minimum, $85 total. Max, $160. If you pay much more than that, you are getting robbed.

Yes. If you want better performance, add more RAM or change your graphics card. But it should run just fine without either of those upgrades. Renegade doesn't have the most demanding engine ever...

No....
I have partially worse specs than that.....
P3 866MHz
384MB RAM
128MB FX5200
And Q3 runs like a dream. I can even run UT2003/2004 at an average of 35FPS.
Ok...Its just my CPU that is weaker, but it is a hell of a lot weaker than a P4 2.8GHz. Even back when I had my crappy 16MB ATI AIW, Renegade would run at 5-15FPS.

deadfive | First off, it doesnt us 98MB of the ram (DUMBASS). The graphics card has a maximum of 98MB for programs to use. When renegade is running only 22MB of 98MB is being used. it is capable of using up to 98MB of graphics memory. i am getting more ram. i will have a total of 484MB of ram.
And this computer does not suck ass. It can even run zero:hour no problem.
|
How are you getting 484MB of ram? I don't see how that will work? You are getting another 128MB stick as well as 64MB stick? Even so that would be 448MB, not 484MB. And if you picked up another stick of 256MB, that would be 512MB total. Or are you factoring in the shared video ram or virtual ram? But most people when they talk about how much ram they have talk about how much is installed.
And your computer does suck ass, even if the lame games that you play don't use up all of the available 98MB of vide ram that you have. Other games will. RTS games are do not cause the most stress on your graphics card or system, like other games will. You should try playing some recent FPS games and see how your system handles. But then again you are used to playing YOUR games in minimal detail at 640x480 or 800x600. So since you don't really stress out your computer that much, and you don't mind the minimal performance that it does for you, you are fine. But your comp still sucks if you want my opinion. There are reasons why people upgrade their computer and have a dedicated vide card.
You have to be one dumb ass to get a computer for gaming that doesn't have a AGP slot. But then again I doubt that you even knew that until I told you. (Since you started this dimwit n00b thread in the first place)
BTW I just found a review on your integrated graphics cards. But in this review the system used totally stomps yours away. Besides the faster CPU and faster hard drive, it has 1,024MB of system memory (1 gigabyte). So the performance giving during this review will be a good deal better than what your computer will bench at.
3.0GHz Pentium 4 (800MHz FSB)
AOpen XC Cube SFF PC, Intel 865G chipset
2 x 512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 modules (run at DDR400, CAS 2.5-3-3)
80GB Western Digital WD800JB
Plextor 16/10/40A CD-RW
Host-based, AC’97 audio
Windows XP Professional, SP1 and DirectX 9.0b installed
HAHA your lame ass video card doesnt even support Comanche 4.

Renx | You'll be fine, you have a 2.8ghz cpu, and ren is mainly cpu dependant. I ran ren for 2 years with a 32mb card and a 1.4ghz cpu, and I got along great.
Wtf is eating up the other 30mb from your gfx card though? 98 seems like an odd number, unless it's all just being borrowed from your real RAM :/
|
98 is a fixed number that is the max to be shared. Renegades is too old to use all of the 98 megs since the textures in the game are not that complex at all. But with games like Battlefield 1942, UT2K4, FarCry, Doom3, HalfLife2, Tribes Vengeance and so on, they will use all 98MB of that or close. But older games are fine played on a 32MB card or what not. I first played renegades on my Athlon 1.2Ghz Geforce 2 GTS 32mb. And it played fairly fine. But at higher resolutions, it would stutter a little.

Crimson | Yeah, wireless for online gaming is BAD, unless it's 802.11g.
|
Which is what I have, and she's right. There is no noticeable difference if you use Wireless-G. The only thing that DOES suck is if your neighbor has it too and they conflict all the time.

You don't need windowed mode unless you use it to be able to see instant messages and mIRC. If you use it only to force vsync off, just turn it off in your ATI driver settings and then switch back to full mode.

kfc | What?
There's nothing really wrong with his rig. It will do Renegade just fine and more. Sure your system is better, but who cares. This isnt a intardweb penis contest. Your just a show off anyways with your "but look at my system, its better" type of attitude.
BTW even though your system might be better, it still reeks of n00b. Xblade case with cheese ball 450 wall PSU. How gay can you get? Then you don't know what sound card you have installed? LOFL. Its like you just went online, found the stupidest fuckin looking case there is and then bought every other piece of hardware that everyone else says is "good". You should at least know what's in your system before you upgrade, dam
BTW the 1.24GB of ram you say you have is not true. Its 1.024GB or ram that you have. The 512MB DDR333 stick that you have in your rig is okay as long as you clock it to DDR400 and its stable there. If not it might be holding you back a little. But I doubt so, it should be fine.
Nothing like n00bs building their own comps!
|
You're also wrong about the memory, it's 1GB, not 1.024GB. Let me explain, 1024MB is 1GB, not 1.024GB. So it's either 1GB of memory or 1024MB of memory. Also, even I barely know what kind of sound card I have, mostly because it's integrated into my motherboard and all my computer ever calls it is nForce 2 audio. Does that mean I'm a n00b too? And as for the case, everyone has their own taste. Just because you don't like his case doesn't mean he sucks at building computers. I think the case looks pretty cool, I like the side of it.
Here's my case. Oh, oops, forgot, I'm a n00b because you don't like it.

I would liek to upgrade my RAM to 1024. Do you think it's worth upgrading my gfx card too? I don't know too much bout these kinda things.

I'd definitely go for upgrading your video card first. It sucks compared to the average stuff now... Let me know what your planned budget is and I can find you a good one.
