Some snipers have really good, insane aim. Put them in an apache or an orca and they can kill someone in a matter of seconds. Literally a matter of seconds.

What is the best way to defend against this?

Also, what is the best way to move around so that it is hard for your opponent to hit you with a sniper at close range?

Considering that the orca/apache gun will kill anyone in two headshots, the safest defense is to kill the WF/Strip first. This is one of those cases like with the ramjet where if you don't have a Hand or Barracks to get characters that can kill air units quickly, you are in for a rough time.

move underneath the orca or apache.. the reticle fucks up when you have to aim under yourself so they will mostlikly miss a few shots.. gives you time to damage them and make them run away

No way!

Wow I never knew this. This is a revelation.

Obviously I can take an orca down with a bloody sniper. But If I couldn't get my hands on a ramjet...

I'll try what you said Vegeta.

Until they figure out how to hit the c key and crush you. Unless our in a tank, in which case you won't be able to hit them from underneath.

It's not hard to know info like that when I have compiled it on our site... not to mention the fact that knowing how much damage it takes to drop something is integral to any sort of PvP game, not just Renegade.

I think iron fart is talking about how to use a character to kill a godly orca or apache, not a tank. Well, the GDI soldier is good against the apache but the Nod soldier is awful against the orca....I've always considered this a bug because both aircraft are equally powerful and there's no reason Nod's rifle should do any less damage to them than GDI's. Come on black hand studios, patch this problem up - I don't think a single person will have a problem with it as it is clearly unfair for Nod.

The question is though, do you nerf the GDI rifle down to 5 per shot instead of 7, or buff the Nod rifle? That's the problem, it has nothing to do with Apaches vs. Orcas as they are functionally the same.

Orcas and Apaches are most definitely not the same. Orcas own Apaches, their machinegun has a longer range. It isn't technically much, but in a straight orca vs. apache fight the orca has a clear advantage.

Although, Apaches are quieter so draw less attention to themselves.

GDI infantry are superior to Nod infantry, and this shouldn't be changed, it's just one of the things which differentiate the two sides. EG, GDI has better base infantry, Nod has stealth options.

Orca's can fly higher as well, shoot faster. If you get at close range and just hold down the chain gun orca will kill an apachee without losing half its health

they don't fly higher, they just don't have to tilt back so much as Apaches do to get the machinegun firing level

The odd thing about the Orca and Apache is that the mod tools say they have different weapons, but in the game both use the same machine gun. I think the effective range of the Apache is less because it doesn't give you targeting as far as the Orca, but I believe the guns do have the same real range. The Apache's rockets are also supposed to be slower and turn faster, but again they use the same type in game.

I know what you're talking about, but I am pretty sure both guns have the same real range in the game, even if the targeting says otherwise.

I think the size and shape of the in-game models for each aircraft is a bigger advantage, honestly.

believe me, the apache player needs to be significantly more skilled than the orca player if he's to win a one-on-one situation.

I think it has more to do with the gun placement than it does the range, though. I'm not arguing the point, I find orcas to be better personally, but in function they are pretty similar. It's only vs. each other that their differences become performance-affecting.

This is all anecdotal and obviously all psychological, but I fly the Apache better than the Orca. And it's more of a Cobra than it is an Apache.

You thought wrong, I could fight your apachee with my orca 100 times, you wouldn't ever win...
