If you do shoot someone, however, you don't have to shoot to kill. Police learn to aim for non-vital, but disabling parts of the body to shoot.

The movies might have you believe that, but they are trained that if they are in a situation to discharge their weapon, they are willing to kill the individual and that the circumstance merits their death. This is why there are so many cases of "suicide by police" where the suicidal individual does what he can to make a police office shoot him(/her).

I don't really have a solid opinion on the death penalty. On one hand, I don't give a shit about those people, but on the other hand it doesn't feel "right" to end their life, though we as humans have been doing that for ages. The way it works right now, it's not a very effective deterrent in and of itself.

It is pretty effective at stopping repeat offenders Smile

look at it th is way. Those who wish to die instead of life in prison may THINK they are getting something out of it, but they won't think that for very long because as soon as i / who ever kills them pulls the trigger they'll be begining there roasing in the fires of hell for the rest of time and beyond. I think it's a worse punishment to be locked up in prison instead of being sentenced to death, and plus, it's less expensive, it turns out, to keep a man in prison for life than it is to go through the process of exacting capital punishment on him. I don't have a huge problem with executing people that have been deemed worthy of it by our judicial system, but I think keeping them locked up is better.

The only reason why the death penalty sucks is because of the way we carry it out. We need to be more harsh.

PLEASE READ PREVIOUS POST.

The reason it is so much more expensive to execute them is because of the way we carry it out , if we used one bullet in a gun then it wouldn't be that way.

Why don't you read my post like you tell me to read yours? I'm not against the death penalty. I think, however, that a life-without-parole sentence is a worse punishment, and it's also less expensive. No shit, half the reason it's so expensive is that it's carried out with a fairly complex procedure that ensures that the death row inmates feel virtually no pain. Shooting them with a bullet is less expensive, obviously, but it is much messier and unless you shoot someone directly in the head, it would be considered cruel and unusual punishment, which, last time I checked, is against the very rules of the Constitution. A lot of people would consider bullets inhumane regardless of how they were used anyway. Thus, the method prevents additional controversy around an already touchy issue.

Also, I was commenting on the current method of executing prisoners, which is the injection method. Why the hell would I be trying to say that shooting people with bullets is less expensive than using the injection method? Official executions haven't used guns since the electric chair was invented. Even before that, people were usually hanged instead. (Yes, I realize this would be considered "cruel and unusual punishment" today too, but it was a different time back then. Don't start an argument over semantics with me.)

PS. The method of execution isn't the only reason capital punishment is so expensive; people appeal death sentences several times before a final, incontrovertible decision is made. This ramps up legal costs, and could make an execution cost several million dollars, regardless of the method used.

In conclusion, this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Please follow your own advice first before dispensing it to others.

Dude, he never said you were against it. All he said was that he pointed out what his solution was to the exact problem you brought up in your post.

That's fine, but he also USED CAPITAL LETTERS TO TELL ME THAT I NEED TO READ HIS POSTS WHEN HE IMPLIES THAT HE'S NOT READING MINE. His previous post isn't so much his opinion on how people should be executed as much as it is some fantasy where he shoots the criminals.

I know, but I'm just saying that starting something over nothing when you could have just as easily said, "I read your post, blah blah blah."
