Alright theres a big arguement going on about the meaning of the end of this movie. (When Rdward Nortans character shoots himself)

I just thought I would see if anyone here has an opinion on what this ending means.

Why does shooting himself make Tyler go away
Why is the bullet whole in the center of the back of Tylers head when Edward Nortans character seems to have just shot a bullet threw his cheek.
Why does Tyler say "whats tha smell" before he dies.

He "tricked" his other self/personality/whatever into thinking that he was fatally shot. His other self assumed there would be a gaping hole through his head, so we see that from his other selfs point of view. But in reality he only shot himself in the mouth. He says what's that smell because he is in shock over having been shot, and smells the gunsmoke from the shot. His other self, having been tricked into thinking he was fatally shot, had no choice but to die. Once he "died", he was free of that part of himself (Tyler).

It's similar to that movie The Cage, where by drowning the young innocent boy version of the older evil guy, the evil guy dies.

Kind of confusing I know Smile

Yes, it is a bit confusing, but its good. It was a really good movie I thought. The only part I didn't like was when that "Mayhem" whatever formed. Just got a bit silly at that point, but the ending was good.

Thats probably the best explaination ive heard.
I kind of had that idea in the back of my head but i had nothing to support it with.

Ok in the beginning of the movie it shows small single frame flash's of Tyler then at the end of the movie it shows the penis.

What is the signifigence of this?

I saw it a long time ago, so I'm probably wrong, but I think that flash was the first moment where Edward Norton's character saw who he wanted to be.

I don't know anything about a penis though. I probably blinked when it happened.
