When I was using my old Graphics card (Nvidia FX 5200 128Mb) I was getting around 10-15 FPS while using Fraps, but since I've gotten my ATi X800 Pro, I'm getting 6 FPS tops. Any ideas why this is happening, and what I can do to increase the performance?

My Specification:

2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 with HT technology (enabled) 800Mhz FSB
768Mb DDR 400Mhz RAM
Sapphire X800 Pro 256Mb

At the time, I was running Windows Media Player, an IE window, and IRC. Although I Alt+Tabbed and closed down as many apps as I could, which had little effect!

Which version of Fraps are you using? What FPS is Fraps set to record at? Did you download the latest drivers for your video card?

Yeah, but not as low as 6 fps. It should be at 20 - 30 fps when recording.

This was in Multiplayer Practice in the GDI base. I'd previously had it set at 20FPS, but I increased that to 30FPS and downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers. It now records at 11FPS in Multiplayer Practice! I still feel it should be higher than this if Majiin is getting no higher than 11 during a 40 player game! =|

What is your hard drive? Video recording also requires fast hard drive RPM.

40Gb. I dont know the RPM of it. Although the only things I could think of that could affect the FPS is the graphics card I updated. Although it makes no sense that a much faster card would make it perfom so much worse than my old card.

I noticed a lot of the brand new cards just released seem to have problems with Fraps, I'm not sure why. Might be a supportive issue.

Strange that I used to have an FX 5200 card before I got my X800 Pro, now I'm getting a worse FPS by about 3-4 ='(

There's no way that can actually happen unless you really messed with something, failed to overclock, or set it up wrong.

Well, when I get back home, I think I'm going to try turning off AA & AF, I think I left those up in my settings =/ I'll edit here later.

i've been looking at fraps software atm and im getting around 30 - 40 when recording Arrow Looks good but the size needs to be brought down but keeping the picture stable. If anyone has a good idea of a fraps video converter i would love to know. I also tryed saving it as an image - seq and using windows movie maker and jasc animation but the running of the movie looks grap and the size ain't that great for running on my ftp.

4Minutes of recording 2gig. Surprised

Hmm sounds like you are having a drive issue with the x800.

Did you run driver cleaner on your pc before you installed the x800, its pretty well know that systems which have had either an ati, then nvidia or vise versa can have major issues with fps. When you remove the driver throught add/remove programs, it never removes all the files.

I have a geforce 6800gt@ultra and i run rene @ 1280x1024 (lcd res) 8aa and 4af usually at about 50-100 fps in large games (40plr) and have no trouble.

@Icedog90, nah the 5200 isnt the worst card ever that would be the S3 virge Wink

i use DR Divx to convert my fraps files into divx, gets a 250mb fraps avi into 3mb divx with good quality

What is a decent driver remover then? I think I'll try uninstalling them, and then re-installing them. Hopefully it will work then =/
