Who here plays musical instruments, professional or just for a hobby?

I am currently actively learning guitar, and prior to that I had 7 years of tutoring for piano. I still play piano now, but everything to do with it is now self-taught. I have a Grade 5 ABRSM Music Theory Certificate, I passed that test with 84, and earned a Credit.

You?

been in music since i was 6

played saxophone for 17 years, and going on year 13 for guitar/bass...

i can pretty much play anything but brass instruments, not a lack of knowledge, just a lack of my mouth not liken it...

been in countless bands, played countless venues, and actively seeking a new band to jam with...

I'm playing bass guitar for about 4 years now. I don't need/want/have/had any lessons. well, I had about 5 lessons in the past. I've learnt everything by myself. I've played with a pick for about 6 months (such a thing guitar players use). I've lost it and I started to play without one. watching iron maiden video's and cannibal corpse for finger techniques. I can play as fast as steve harris now Smile . Took me about one year to get the 3 finger technique right (3 fingers are needed when you have to triple).

I'm playing in a band too. I've started a band with a friend. We're writing our own songs now Smile . You can compair it with trash metal. But faster than kreator and better riffs tough. Trying to play faster and faster every time. I hope we can record a demo soon.

We had a some gigs a while ago. We've been on stage for about 6 times. Playing covers. Only a few songs though

Iron maiden- the trooper
Overkill- I, Hurricane
Kreator- Extreme agressions
Sepultura- (I don't know this song was called. Can't remember Confused )
Motorhead- ace of spades
Metallica- For Whom the Bell Tolls

We don't play covers anymore, We're making our own material now. It's hard though. I can't write good lyrics because I'm dutch, and we need english lyrics.

I've spend nearly all my money for my bass guitar. I have 2 bass guitars. One old and bad and cheap one. I've played about 2 years on it. And a have a spector ns 2000 pro Q4. I have a SWR amplifier. 4X10 cabinet, a Goliath 3, 700 watts rms. A 350 watts head, from the pro series from swr. and another 200 watts 1x15 cabinet. Took me so much money. I've been working long for it. When I came back from school I went woring. Every saturday. and whole holidays. when everybody was on holiday or at the swimming pool or whatever, I was working for my gear. I was worth it though Smile

I've been playing my bass since May, and I think I'm pretty good for someone who's been playing just that long (not being cocky or anything =)). I've got a Fender Squier P-Bass with a 20 Watt Stagg amp (Probably going to get a new one). I've also self taught myself with the piano and I've been doing that for about 6 years now. I can play the trumpet and trombone, I've been doing that for years now too (Lost count);

Eugh, drums. I like them as long as the percussionist is good. My little sister has drums and she's crap! I just turn on my bass guitar up loud and drown her out =D

I've got most of the brass/reed sections down through experience. I also play the Pipes, the drums, and am currently toying around with programs like Reason to try and produce some quality track songs.

I've been playin guitar for about 4 or 5 years now, took some lessons which didn't do much, so i've been self taught. I play punk, rock'n'roll, psychobilly, surf rock, you name it and i'll make somethin up. I play lead guitar in a street punk band, mixed with some other styles of music that i splice in.

I also got some drums for our drummer in August, used for about $120. Since they're at my place until I completely revamp 'em, I play those alot now, too.

I can also play bass if i came upon one, but with the skill and experience of a guitarist, so i'm not too great. They're all stringed instruments anyway.

I've been taking lessons and playing piano for about 9 years now. I passed my Grade 8 RCM practical exam and am working on my 2nd level theory for a credit. I've also played bass for about 2 years now in my band and have been self taught. I plan to take lessons in the near future.

Drums, I have an old Ludwig set that I have messed with so much that I couldn't tell you when it was made/what package it was in. It's a 22" Bass, 14" snare, 12", 13", 16" toms, 14" hi hat, 14" thin crash, 16" medium crash, 18" crash, 20" ride cymbals. (All cymbals are zildijan [sp?])
I use 5A's for most everything, and SDB (also sp?) Generals for when I want to piss off the neighbors.

Oh yes, almost forgot, I have a nifty mounted cowbell. Go blue oyster cult!

What kind of music do you play most? And how many strings does your bass have? If I may ask.
