And tell Blackhand Studios why you dont run RenGuard or use RenGuard servers and what Blackhand Studios can do to improve RenGuard so you will use it.

I myself run RenGuard, but someone on my server recently said

"People dont run RenGuard because we dont cheat."

after he had got banned for "accused of cheating, not running RenGuard"

EDIT: there have also been times when i have not run rg for long periods of time, due to a few w3ds i downloaded from a few sites not approved on RG

I have used RG from day 1 it was released. I have experienced no bugs whats so ever!

But I know some people within my clan don't use it because of bugs between client & server.

FPS issues, possibly higher lag (worse than renegade is already) in being connected to another network, lack of necessity..

I used to run it, I even helped with the Beta testing but I had connection problems with 1.03 :/

If we had to ban all who ever cheated or ever created a cheat (obj3cts and such) then I don't think there would be many members left here (sad fact).

RG does not cause lag or drop in FPS, and is not actively connected to another network Razz

maybe an auto set priority of RG to Low would fix lag people have been reporting? Razz

EDIT: Setting Renegade to High would be better.....

Same.

No it doesn't, you just easily think it does. It could be something else, or you could be constantly watching the meter and seeing that it's 2 fps slower, which has nothing to do with RenGuard.

No it does not...
If it really does then your pc just sucks lol.

It uses very little bandwidth, even less than MSN Messenger or something simular lol.
Its the n00bs that blame RG for their crappy pc and/or crappy internet connection and use this as an excuse for not running it.
Sometimes its not even the player or RG which causes their lag, it can also
be the server they play on ie: The server hosting for more players than it
can have bandwidth wise or there is a low SFPS. Regardless of wether you
have a kick-ass pc with a stable 75+ FPS , when the SERVER has 10SFPS
your game will 'feel like' 10 fps as well (even if you have 75+ fps showing).

Its primarily the newbies with software that have problems with running RG..
What on earth can be so hard to install RG lol? I dont have a freaking idea.
And on top of that some people like to use W3D files with altered weapon models or something which are not approved by RG yet or they never will be because they possibly offer an advantage in gameplay for the player using it. (W3D are not limited to weapon models that is)

Just use textures, skins, sounds, maps only then there are no problems with RenGuard usually...

Make it more user friendly. I used it with no problems, but others cant. Fastc0nn servers went from full with a player count of 50 before RenGuard to a player count of (at most) 6 after the installation of RenGuard. The simple fact that the server owners are paying 250 bucks a months for two servers with an average total player count of 10 doesnt sit well. Hence the removal of it.

Incorrect. If the SFPS is very low, you'll experience lag, not FPS (invisible) drops. I've played in a non-dedicated server and the host has had 10 fps, yet Renegade still feels very fast. I've also experienced the same in dedicated servers.

It seemed to drop my fps about 3 on the loading screen Sad . I tested it without renguard and had the fps back. also isn't it active on the network every time it scans your /dir to see if you added anything?

kudos to the no lag part though, wasn't sure about that.

I can't be exactly sure that RG makes the FPS drop a little (i just heard) But it seems logical since it keeps scanning the renegade folder while playing...

And uhmmm, yea... my pc sucks...

I don't think it "scans" every once and a while, because then if someone were to change a file then they would get away with it until it scans again. RenGuard uses a different method. And ffs, RenGuard only uses 1mb of memory, there is no way it can slow down your FPS at all unless you have like 64mb of memory.

well okay, i tested it again and it only took up one frame. dunno how much that'll affect in a large server but you need every frame you can get. plus my computer has 640mb.(ram)

One frame doesn't mean it's RenGuard's fault. Sometimes I would open Renegade and it's either running one frame slower or one frame faster than before. That has NOTHING to do with RenGuard, it's just things constantly changing in your computer, your computer is never running the same speed constantly.

it was either the beta or the first version release after the beta that had CPU spikes.. would drop my FPs ingame to 10 then back up.. that was annoying.. doesnt happen in the current versions tho

so the fps lag was true

Yes, but we're talking about this version of RenGuard. It's kind of like how a lot of people don't play RenAlert because they didn't like the first beta, and they assume the current version is still shit.

It's just a DLL that sends a command to Renguard when a file is added/removed from the folder... then scanned and the correct result is applied...

Anywho, I don't run RG on my server since I have no players... imagine a $160 server getting 4 players on a 36 player server.... Remove renguard, and you have yourself a 36 player server... FULL

Yes, I can see that too, and it would suck. Hopefully, in the next few months RenGuard will be a lot more popular.

I run RG on my client. I don't have a problem and it seems to work great. I run a 8 player server that has been around a few years now and has a proven track record. I installed RG on it early on in the release process. I have recently removed RG from my server. Since installing RG on my server it was almost always empty and never ever at full capacity. Before RG server was always full during peaktimes of the day. Since I removed Rg server is once again at full capacity during peak times. Using a combination of moderating and the RG locator it is very easy to keep the server under control. Some how you have to figure a way to get the word out to the masses about RG. It's advertised in my server and on my MOD. I answer questions about what it is constantly. I encourage it's use on my server. I'm not sure of what else I could do to get the word out.

I have been using Renguard for a few weeks and have not had a problem. However I have been playing for a long long time and never used Renguard before because of all the damage I have heard it can cause. In the end so many servers now require Renguard that i gave in and downloaded it.
