Thier are many exploits, best to defend against as much as you can Mad
I can tell you the one that is going on is not something your average joe can do. This is some script kiddie with a botnet just flooding wol.

This effects you in 2 ways:
1, your sfps will drop
2, packet loss on your server and lagging
People will think your server sucks but in truth, wol is just getting hit.
