This was found in the "Voice of the People" section in my local newspaper. This was NOT written by me. This was written by Larry Zaier who is a resident of my city.

"People are going to smoke, and however they obtain the smokes is driving crime and/or whatever other means used to obtain them beyond legality. This is, or will be, bigger than Prohibition ever thought of being. Why not use a fair plan, across the board, to reduce some of the higher-than-ever salaries and/or bonuses they give to each other, or whatever means necessary to achieve peace across the United States. The prisons and jails are full before they are even built. All of this money (from the cigarette tax) will be gone as well, so why should all of us worry? The state will just find some other way to fill their pockets. Does Patrick Henry come to mind?"

If you found any sense or relevance to his ranting, then you sir, are also an idiot.

whoa.

I couldn't care less if they raise smoking taxes I don't smoke so therefore I don't care. Raising taxes on Tabaco might make people think about what a waste of money it is to smoke. Not to mention the health risks.

Okay, you're an idiot. The whole point to this was to make fun of this guy's ramblings. I didn't post this because I agreed with it; I posted it because I laughed at it.

What? The pointless rambling on why smoking is bad? I know what the effects are, and I'm not trying to defend either side. I'm just trying to laugh at this moron and share with everyone the idiocy that this guy has.

I think the US government should make up their fucking mind. There needs to be a clear line drawn on what harmful substances are legal and which are not. As long as cigarettes are legal, the government has no right to specifically tax the shit out of them. Also, it's also ridiculous that the government decides that cigarettes are legal but pot is not, pot doesn't have any detrimental health effects and the long term mental effects don't hold a candle to the side effects of tobacco. Neither of them are good but it's plain hypocrisy to allow one and not the other, as well as to make one legal but tax it to the point of being unaffordable to the people who are already addicted.

Pot has no detrimental health effects? Are you totally oblivious to all the scientific facts as well as the daily effects to the stability of mind and body?

Pot is not a very dangerous drug, because it is not at addictive, although it may be habit-forming, these are not the same things. Cigarettes are much worse since you need them so much more often once you get addicted. I really don't care about how high the cigarette taxes go, people just need to stop using them.

Oh, I also think that if the government is going to put a high tax on unhealthy things, then there should be an enourmous fast food tax to encourage people to eat actual food instead of greasy garbage.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

Ok, that was just mindless rambling about two things that doesn't even go together. If he was to talk about smoking taxes, that's one thing. If he was to talk about the endless crime in america, that's another thing, but to put both things together with sloppy sentence structure, that's just another retard looking for attention.
