I read a theory about time and travel yesterday, and time travel is supposedly done through wormholes. My understanding is that in order to create a wormhole, you have to rip the fabric of time and space. How is that possible?

Although space isn't really a thing because there's nothing there. It's like asking where to find the edge of nothing, if I'm not mistaken.
