mrpirate | ATI and Nvidia are like Coke and Pepsi. The only people that have anything to gain from us choosing sides are the companies themselves.
|
I agree. Intel and AMD as well. Both are perfectly good choices...

I'm going for the X800 XT myself, mainly because of nvidia's poor performance compared to ATi in their FX series of cards. I have an FX 5200 at the moment, and my old GeForce 4 MX 440 SE on my older computer was better than this one in renegade. Also, I dont like the idea of the 6800 using a lot of power, and looking at benchmarks, ATi's X800 series are better at the moment, although future games may bring the 6800's up a bit. IMO

Sweet graphics card.
Although to be honest, unless you have a lot of money to throw around I think it's kind of a waste. I have a Geforce 4 Ti4200 and it still runs everything, even Far Cry fine. It ran the Doom 3 Alpha at max graphics at 10-15FPS, so I'm sure it will be able to handle the final version just fine. I don't think there's any games that will start to use the capabilities of that card until Unreal 3.

It's not a backround. He's running demo software that came with the card in the backround.

well, after some a new setup of my card, I am not far from 700 fps on a offline map alone. But in game and with people, it becomes 150 or more or less...
And my result on 3d mark 03 last version is very good :

Actually, the 6800 is preforming better than the X800 in the Doom 3 benchmarks. The 6800 may be a bit better than the X800, but after buying this horrid piece of crap they call the 5200 FX, I'm never buying another Nvidia card again.

I'm more of a performace person, in other words I like performance over picture quality most of the time because I like a decent frame rate so that I have better aim. Although in some cases I like to have good quality. Other reasons that I am going for the X800 XT is because I'll probably have to upgrade my PSU, and I'd need more money for it which I dont have! Does the system info show your PSU rating? And what is the min PSU needed for the 6800?
I may well switch to the 6800U

The best solution:
Buy X800 pro VIVO card (450 shipped check http://www.pricewatch.com)
download GIGABYTE X800 XT PE BIOS
Flash your x800 pro VIVO with x800 XT bios from GIGABYTE
Install latest ATI catalyst drivers
Violla you have a X800 XT PE graphics card with all 16 pipes enabled running at X800 XT PE speeds for 450.00 shipped
x800 pro VIVO is the same card as the x800 XT just has a bios that dissables 4 pipelines.
BTW x800 XT is the fastest card in dx9 (NVIDIA is fastest in OPEN GL) and beats the NVIDIA ultra 6800. Plus it does not require a 480 watt powersupply, a 300 watt is all it needs. Check online benchmarks from anadtech.
