..or do you mean the actual sound through the speakers?

Either way, it'll be:

a) Your speakers
b) Your sound card

Be sure to open up your computer case and check that there are no stray animals living off of the power supply and chewing all of your computer's internals. They can get pretty nasty once they pass the 50-lb marker.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

is the problem in game only? what about if you play music or CD? Try to use headphones instead of speakers if it still sounds bad then it's your sound card/driver/or settings. If you hear it perfect threw the head phones then it's you speakers/or speaker wires.

what model is your sound card would help
have you tried to update the drivers / re install the card

also have you tried to change the settings marked in this picture with a red X it is possible your card may not support the driver you are using or the quality / playback rate.

Go to Control Panel.

Then, "Sounds and Audio Devices" (If you are running XP, make sure the view is switched to classic--that option should be on the left of the window).

Under "Speaker Settings", go to "Advanced". Now hit the "Performace" tab.

Move the "Hardware Acceleration" slider to "None".

Reformatting will change the hardware acceleration back to default, which is "full". Actually try to do what I said earlier. If that doesn't work, make sure you test it out with head phones. Remember to connect them directly to the computer and not through the speakers, as the speakers may be part of the problem.

If it is still full of static after all that, then you need to buy a new sound card.

plug the headphones into where the speakers are now, and beware that it might be one hell of a loud when you start.

I did that once and had tinnitus for 2 days
