Hi,

I have a

P4 3.0GHRTZ 800 FSB HYPER THREADING TECHNOLOGY
512 DDR RAM
120 GIGS HD
Asus P4P800 Motherboard AGP 8X Enabled
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128MEG DDR AGP 8X enabled

and I have this problem when I play renegade on highest graphics. My problem is that when i join a 40 an up player game, I get low FPS such as 30, 40s. Is there anything else to improve the FPS dropps without harming the graphics detail? one more thing is that I do not run anything in the background such as Anti-virus or any other applications.

any help would be appreciated! Smile

Looks like there are a few similar posts..

So others say 30-40 fps isn't bad, I have no idea what rate I get.

What is your connection speed?

No matter how fast you're rig is, it can't draw a new image until it gets the locations of everything in the screen.

Also, don't complain about getting "only" 40fps. I have to play at 640x480 on this crappy thing(it's got a first generation Mobility Radeon 32mb). My other computer is better.

Just don't complain, unless you are consistently getting lag killed, because you're eyes cannot tell the difference between 40fps and 1000fps, and if you think you can it's psychological. The human eye perceives constant motion past 24 fps.

There was a time when people were impressed that I have the firepower to decimate a planet in under 10 minutes.

Negative, you can see the difference between 40 and 60 FPS if you look close enough. It's above 60 that gets needless. Increasing the refresh rate is almost irrelevant too, because the lowest the refresh rate can get is some 56. 2 men with equal skill would do equally well with 56 and 100 FPS.

PP, you'd benefit from another 521mb ram.

I have my Renegade set to 640x480x32 by default always.
Running in higher res only decreases your ability to aim. Things appear
a little bigger on a 17" LCD running in 640x480 Razz (i r cheater hehe Razz jk) and the FPS is amazingly stable usually above 60.

None of this is true.

I thought human vision was at about 12fps, but being lag killed does suck balls

Um...I can EASILY tell the difference between 12 fps and 30 fps (seeing as my current pos tops out at 34 fps). It's actually quite choppy at 12 fps.

whoa.

For me, I begin to not tell the difference above 70 fps. I've played Renegade at 250 fps before (lowered the resolution to 640x400 to test my top speed) and the speed felt the same as 70 fps.

Trust me, you CAN tell the difference above 40 fps. 70 fps feels like turbo mode, 60 fps feels slightly less.
