After reading sw33t's story, I was wondering, why don't Crimson set up like a English (spelling, grammar) test you have to complete when signing up for the forum...if you fail it, you can't join?

Stupid idea, not all members are English speaking and you would fail the test to start with your post ^^

If we had to ban all who ever cheated or ever created a cheat (obj3cts and such) then I don't think there would be many members left here (sad fact).

There are euro forums somewhere, you should be forced to cross a river of fire pain and death before getting here, or a room with bottles that have no safety labels both keep idiots out.

This is a English-speaking forum, so you shouldn't be here if you can't speak English.

Heh, sounds like fun, although people may just type correctly to get in to the forums, at which point they fall in to the burning apocalypse of l33tspeak.

Give me a day and I'll make a test that'll be funny and quite serious aat the same time. Then, we could put an outtakes sticky at the top of General Discussion and post all the funniest answers there.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

Without much further ado, I give you:

Welcome to the Renegade Public Forums Literacy Test.

This test is used to make sure people who can't spell and/or have little grasp of the English language even though they claim to do not pollute our otherwise grammatically correct areas. Hey, sounds like discrimination, right? But it's not. …So there.

Before being able to make any posts on the Renegade Public Forums, you must first answer the simple test below. PMing [Private Messaging] other members for the answers to this test is generally frowned upon, and is grounds for cheating, as stated in Chapter 39, Section 6, Clause II of the Renegade Public Forums Test-Taking Cheating Rulebook. The full rulebook can be viewed below this test.

Well, it's time to get on with the test. This will examine your knowledge of the English language and how well you grasp the most important aspects, Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Grammar/Punctuation.

Questions 1-3:

Please edit the words in the following sentences so that they become proper English:

welcome too the Diner, How may ii hehlp u?

prePare for ann1halAt10n, space trooper Bob!

1 4M T3H 733T SN1P3R!!!111oneone

[Notice – L33Tspeak (as shown above) is generally frowned upon in these forums unless you feel like a cliched, mildy witty sarcastic remark at someone who made a spelling error, because lots of people in this forum feel that language is more important than actual thought. Hence this non-discriminatory test.]

Question 4:

Does Professor Bald require a sandwich? Yes/No

Professor Bald said, "I don’t don't not not don't require a not sandwich at this time."

[Notice – Anything in English using more than two negatives in a sentence is considered improper. Please refrain.]

Question 5:

In which tense is this verb?

Paul drove off the cliff.

Question 6:

Which punctuation mark should be used at the end of this sentence?

Sir Phoenixx was going to model a Dragon ATGM launcher for Renegade Alert, until he realized that the launcher was incredibly large and required you to sit on your butt to use

Question 7:

Please add proper punctuation to this otherwise improperly punctuated sentence.

Hello said Anne Where are all the cookies I would like to eat some cookies now
Anne walked to the door You cant have any cookies replied Roger

Question 8:

Please properly abbreviate this word – AirCraftKiller.

Bonus Questions:

Is the scandal at Abu Gharib to be considered a fraternity prank?

If you make a mod, which had playablility issues but was still looking good last year and this year you have been working for a long time to fix many of the problems with it, and most everything you have been making looks good, and you claim to have fixed most of the bugs in the previous version, and someone comes up to you and tells you, "[name of your mod] Sucks." what do you do?

Thank you for completing the Renegade Public Forums Literacy Test. Please put your answers in this form in a separate post to be sent to Crimson for checking.

The Renegade Public Forums Literacy Test has been brought to you by SuperFlyingEngi.

About spelling errors - please post them here - this test will sort of fall through if it has grammatical mistakes - I tried my best, but no one's perfect.

Question five states "Which tense is this verb in?". To write as best as you can, do not have a preposition at the end of a sentence. The question would be fine if left at "Which tense is this verb?", or if you wanted to, "In which tense is this verb?" would be correct as well.

You make a mod which had playability issues, but was still looking good last year. This year however, you have been working for a long time to fix many of the problems with it, and everything you have been making look good. You claim to have fixed most of the bugs in the previous version and then AirCraft Killer comes up to you and tell you, "Reborn Sucks" what do you do?

I think I got most of them correct.

Abbreviating the word "AirCraftKiller" would make ACK, not adding a space between the T and K.

The bonus question about mods sucking is asking what your response to Reborn Sucks is.

Number 4 is a yes/no question.

Number 7 should have quotation marks around Hello, and Where are all the cookies? I would like to eat some cookies now.

Other than that, good work.

My suggestion for actually implementing such a test would be to put a sticky about the test being PMed to everyone, and when someone adds a new member, automatically PM them the test, and if they do not send back an answer within a week, their account is banned until such time as they send Crimson an e-mail and she administers the test.

But I think we should implement forum mommy first.

Abbreviating "Aicraftkiller" would be AK, no matter how many capital letters you randomly throw in there.

I don't know what this topic is about, and didn't even read the title. I just wanted an excuse to post this signature. Why? It's funny.

Also, if you wanted to abbreviate "Aircraftkiller" in segments (can't remember the proper name  ) you would be saying ACKL, "Air craft ki ller", as in how many pieces there are to the name when you say it. That's awesome. Then again, people would just start calling him "Jackal", which would evolve into "Jacko".

People! Aircraft is one word! Killer is another word! That means when we abbreviate the name "Aircraftkiller," the abbreviation is AK! Not ACK!
