Where the hell are the tools? [message #-999661] |

It should be this week.... However, I think Westwood could have kept us informed or maybe released partial tools (the model importer/exporter) during this time. It's really not too much to ask (at least to be informed) as Westwood was promoting the modability (is that a word?! it is now...) of Renegade from the get go. Then, after it was released virtually no info on it. It's a little frustrating...

I can update you guys on that...hey, dont get angry, ppl are there to help you know? Now...Yesterday I, and probably quite other mod-related webmasters/teams etc, received an email from Chris "Delphi" Rubyor, which clearly stated that they are now making ready the mod tools. The guys wanted FEEDBACK, so that they could implement lots of stuff in the tools, AND the game (much improved mod support in the patch after the airpatch I believe.). They are making them, however judging from the feedback requested (basically everything), they ARE gonna take some time..IMO, at least a month or so, at max..2 months?

What the !@#$ if up with that. I redownloaded it twice and the same thing. I typed the cd key with "-" and without "-", but still did'n let me install it. I'm not weining or anything, but I think the lack of info for the last month is !@#$ed up.
The Dedicated Server requires a special serial # that you get by following the instructions included with the program. It does NOT use your regular serial #. The mod tools will be coming out with the new patch, which we hope to have out very soon now. ~d.

quote: With all due respect to WW... You cant trust what WW says about whats going to be in a game... Just look back at all other games and see what they promised was going to be in it and never showed up! Look at all the early Renegade videos and screens...I have only seen 1 or 2 things in Renegade that was in the early vids...everything else is gone
Ain't that the truth! I still have my PC Gamer from late 1999 that has the Renegade exclusive! It listed all the game modes that weren't there. It also seemed that they were planning on making the AI smart (they talked a lot about how the soldiers would react to what was going on around them). They also talked about how they were going to have locational damage. Like, an example they give in the article is: blowing out the treads of a tank therefore causing it not to move. Anyhow, with that all said and done, I am not bashiong Westwood as I realize that a lot of things change in the course of development. However I think it would have been cool if they had kept their plan for good AI.

That makes a whole lot of sense. They should tell us the week before they come out. Not tell us 3 months before they come out, saying that their almost done and then 1 month later say their just starting on them.

quote: 4) I've already said a lot about this patch, but apparently since you've missed all of it, here's a quick update -- we're working on the new patch and have been for quite some time. We want to have all the possible bugs fixed before we release a patch, so we're quite thorough in our testing. This new patch will also coincide with the release of our new version of the free dedicated server (but not the Linux version -- that's still under development and could be a while), the mod tools and the level editor. This new patch also includes the air vehicles, so there's a lot to test. I cannot and will not give a date because I don't have one and making guesstimates has come back to bite me in the butt too many times, so I won't even guess at release dates. We're working on it, that's all I'll say. I even made a news post to Westwood Online to keep posted. We're working, trust me ~d
This was in a post from Dev posted April 14, 2002 23:21. Read the Post Here... I don't think DEV reads these boards, as much as he Reads the General fourm. Don't believe me? See DEV's Post Here...
