Buying tanks for teammates [message #-979488] Wed, 06 March 2002 04:35 Go to next message

The only thing that sucks about the lock on new vehicles, is that you cant buy tanks for teammates. I remember at one point I had like 4k, and was the engie running around fixing buildings, I wanted to buy tanks for teammates, but you have to take the chance the enemy will steal them.

Anybody else do this for the team?

Yeah, I basically do like I do when I buy one for myself.

Buy the tank, get in the tank, ask anyone if they NEED a tank and then wait 30 seconds for the lock to clear and then hop out and let him in.

I think tank locks last 30 secs. Then they are free for whoever gets it.

I build tanks for teammates but you need to be carefull because you may build tanks for the enemy and end up chasing them around the camp.

Sorry for not knowing - there's a 30 second lock even if you hop in and hop out?

I had assumed that the minute I hopped out it was free for anyone.

Also, I assume that every vehicle is free for the enemy to steal from the first instant.

Yeah the enemy can steal one as soon as it's purchased, I've done this myself, it's pretty cool when you are the enemy.

Also to add to my last comment, you go in stealthed and wait near airstrip for someone to buy a vehicles, hopefully a mammoth, run right up and take it. NOD has so many more mean tactics, maybe that's why I like them.

Heh, and yet another addition stealing enemy vehicles is even better than using your own. Because on pubs half the time people dont realize you are on the opposing team. Although the drawback is if you are at your own base your teammates like to fire on your instead of the enemy.

I do not believe that is true. I think you have to kill the person who purchased it first.

I may be thinking about the beta, it's been awhile since I have actually done this, so it may have changed since I've last done it. Or maybe last time I did it it ws sitting there for over 30 seconds, who knows. I'll try it later when I get home if I get the chance.

I think you also can jump in and out of the tanks, and they should be available to others in your team, and the enemy......

I've had 6000+ credits before and I'm YELLING at my teammates "ANYONE NEED A MAMMY? I HAVE $$$$$" and nobody friggin' replies half the time. "HOW 'BOUT FLAMES? ANYONE WANT ONE?"

All the while there are HMMWVs, MRLs, and small tanks rolling outta the garage.

You just buy the tank and leave it there Godlick. I was in the same game and I had 7K but I did not have time to tell you just buy the tank and people will come to the tank and waiting to get in.

I have just bought vehicles jumped in then jumped out and the lock was gone. Also if you are enemy I'm pretty sure the buyer needs to be killed for the lock to go away unless the time limit is up. So a guy sniping and a stealth black hand would work pretty good in this situation especially if the got RW or a com link of some kind. But I can't be certain cause only did it once.

My tank normally gets stolen bcos of the lag. It literally takes me like 40secs to get to my tank, by that time, some n00b get it blown up.

nirvana, if you really want a mammy, ASK for one... just don't get in because you want one... nobody will back you up if you ever steal a tank, even for a "good" cause.... especially me... And you'll have a pretty bad reputation on the web, so that nobody will ever help you when you trully need it... If you want one, ask for one... simple, and I somebody has enough money, he'll buy you one.... that is teamplay....

When I'm an engie running around repairing my base or teammates I ac***ulate a FAT load of cash, one time I had enough for 5 mammoths. Anyways when my cash is high I say 'Who wants a mammoth? Free one parked outside of factory'. Whats the point in buying a mammy for myself? I spend it on teammates and I continue repairs

That's why your team should rotate engineers. Be hotwire/tech for a while. When you have $3000 or so, and someone else is broke cause he just lost his tank, you drive for a while and let him repair the base.

That way everybody wins (and you get some points)

Just buying the tank and leaving it at the factory is risky, if you ask me. Too many times someone buys a tank from a building far removed from the factory, and the enemy steals it before they can high-tail it over to the factory to claim it. I always wait for someone to respond to my offer of a free tank, but like you guys have said, rarely does anyone answer the call.
