You can still do it. The Obelisk won't fire at you at all, so the possibility that it might miss is not an issue. Just get to the rock near the PP and hide behind it until the Obelisk calms down. Then hide behind the wall until it calms down again. Then run like hell until the Hand of Nod shadows the Obelisk. If you run in the right direction you'll be safe just before the Obelisk fires. From there you can get into the Hand via the back entrance or, if you are careful, you can go into the PP.
